An einem der ersten Apriltage des Jahres, an dem die Sonne sich langsam durch die Wolken schob und die Aussicht im Das Loft, dem Restaurant im 18. Stock des Sofitels in Wien, weit und spektakul\u00e4r zu werden versprach, fand in diesem w\u00fcrdigen Rahmen die Pr\u00e4sentation der zweiten Single Malt Abf\u00fcllung von Glenmorangies Bond House No. 1 Serie statt. Zu dieser Gelegenheit war Paul Malone, Global Brand Ambassador f\u00fcr Glenmorangie nach Wien gekommen, um den Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1989 vorzustellen.<\/p>\n

Das Loft im Sofitel Vienna<\/p><\/div>\n

Dabei erkl\u00e4rte uns der sympathische Schotte, der einstmals Profi Fu\u00dfballer war, die Besonderheiten dieser Abf\u00fcllung. Die Bond House No. 1 Serie ersetzt den Glenmorangie 25 years und zielt darauf ab, Single Malts aus besonderen Jahrg\u00e4ngen in eine Flasche zu bringen.<\/p>\n

Da die Brennerei 1990 erweitert wurde, war es notwendig das Still House, also der Platz an dem wirklich destilliert wird, zu verlegen. Insofern ist der Jahrgang 1989 der letzte, der im alten Still House gebrannt wurde. Diese Besonderheit nahm Whiskymacher Bill Lumsden zu Anlass, diesen besonders feinen Malt zum Teil in Rotweinf\u00e4ssern von der franz\u00f6sischen C\u00f4te-R\u00f4tie nachreifen zu lassen, was dem Whisky, der ansonsten den typischen Hausstil aufweist, noch viel Raffinesse und einiges an Tiefe verleiht.<\/p>\n

Paul Malone<\/p><\/div>\n

Vorspiel<\/strong><\/p>\n

Die Verkostung erfolgte ausgehend vom Standard Produkt der Brennerei, dem Glenmorangie 10 years. Dabei handelt es sich um das verkaufsst\u00e4rkste Produkt der Distillerie und vor allem um jene Abf\u00fcllung, die den Hausstil hervorragend zeigt. Er wird nur in ehemaligen Bourbon-F\u00e4ssern gelagert, die nach sorgf\u00e4ltiger Auswahl bei Glenmorangie h\u00f6chstens zweimal wiederbef\u00fcllt werden. Neben dem angenehmen Vanille und Karamellgeschm\u00e4ckern, sorgen diese F\u00e4sser auch daf\u00fcr, dass das leichte Destillat, das aus den h\u00f6chsten Pot Stills der schottischen Whiskyindustrie flie\u00dft, seinen Charakter entfalten kann. Besonders mit einem kleinen Tropfen Wasser entfaltet sich eine ungeheure Fruchtigkeit und ein cremiges Gef\u00fchl am Gaumen.<\/p>\n

Um den Einfluss des Alters, aber auch die Nuancen eines zweiten Fasstyps zu demonstrieren, wurde Glenmorangie 18 years als zweite Probe gereicht.<\/p>\n

Basierend auf dem Standard Rezept, werden besondere F\u00e4sser l\u00e4nger gelagert. Ein Teil des Whiskys wird allerdings in ehemalige Oloroso Sherryf\u00e4sser umgezogen, wo er dann f\u00fcr 36 Monate bleibt, ehe er mit dem Rest des Malts wieder verheiratet wird. Diese Ma\u00dfnahme bringt zus\u00e4tzlich Noten von Fudge, etwas Haselnuss, eine gute Balance und enorme L\u00e4nge.<\/p>\n

Hauptgang<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nun, da der Gaumen sich an \u00e4lteren Whisky herangetastet hatte, kam der Moment den Grand Vintage 1989 zu probieren, von dem nur etwa 6.000 Flaschen abgef\u00fcllt wurden.<\/p>\n

Die fast 3 Jahrzehnte in Bourbon-, Oloroso Sherry- und schlie\u00dflich C\u00f4te-R\u00f4tie F\u00e4ssern haben dem Malt eine intensive Kupferfarbe verliehen. Leichte Andeutungen von holzigem Rauch und feinem Tabak werden von Bratapfel und getrockneten Datteln umspielt. Am Gaumen kommt eine fast \u00f6lige Struktur zum Tragen, die eine enorme L\u00e4nge im Finish einl\u00e4utet.<\/p>\n
